Drama Theatre - is not just a form of art, it is a form of social consciousness, one of the main components of the people, the national culture and history. Theatre plays a vital role in the political, aesthetic and moral education of mankind, having a wide range of synthesis and artistic expression. The main backbone of any drama, is an actor, embodies the essence of his work and the great theater.

Yakut drama is one of the leading areas of artistic culture of the republic, which for many decades has been a major target of its development. A long tradition of combining specific national artistic thinking and principles of Russian theater school, bright creative people, events enabled him to become one of the brightest events of national theater culture. Today, the country has six theaters and what is more, cinematography is rapidly growing, what commemorates the birth in our culture a new phenomenon, called by critics the "phenomenon of the Yakut cinematograph."

The Department of Acting and Directing of Arctic State Institute of Art and Culture is the only educational institution of higher professional education in the republic, teaching artists of theater and cinema drama, drama directors. Over the years, the Department has released more than 60 students, many of them are the pride of the Yakut theater stage and cinematography, leading actors, chief directors of Yakutia, Tuva, Altai, Khakassia. Teaching is prominent theater of the republic. Practical training base for creative practices in both specialties are the leading theaters of the Republic: State Academic Russian Drama Theatre. Pushkin, Sakha Academic Drama Theater. PA Oiunskii, Theatre for Young Audiences (Yakutia). The activities of the Department of Acting and Directing based on the concept of Professor A. Borisov about the education of a new generation of actors and directors of the drama based on a thorough knowledge of traditional culture and learning process in the world of culture. Both teachers and students are actively involved in the creative life of the city and the country. They are participants, winners and of republican, russian and regional competitions and festivals.

On the 2013-2014 academic year the Department of Acting and Directing announces admission of applicants to the specialty 070201 "Performing Arts" program specialties.
